Use spray starched white cotton voile or batiste. |
2. Trim the seam down to 1/8". |
3. Finish with a narrow zigzag stitch. |
5. Press the right back opening edge in to align with the raw edge of the center back seam. |
7. Straight stitch the back opening edges in place. |
8. Turn the corner at the base of the right back opening and stitch over to the folded edge. |
9. Press the casing down on the 'Fold for Casing' line marked on the pattern. |

10. Straight stitch the casing in place, leaving the ends open. |
11. Stitch the center back seam and trim down to 1/8". |

As you can see, the right side of the back opening will extend out further than the left to create an overlap when finished. |
12. Finish the center back seam with a narrow zigzag. |

13. Finish the hem edges with a narrow zigzag or surger finish. |
This would be a good chance to use the method learned in lesson 1 for attaching lace for a slightly ruffled look. |

A row or even several rows of satin ribbon can be sewn on above the lace edging. |
14. Match the leg ends and sew the inseam in one continuous motion. Trim the seam to 1/8" and zigzag or surge to clean finish. |

15. On the inside, tack the overlap in place at the base with a few hand stitches. |
16. With a small safety pin, run a length of ribbon through the casing, leaving streamer ends hanging to tie. |
Tie the ribbon in a bow in the back. |
